Richard Powers' " Modulation” is about a mysterious, unhackable music malware that is overpowering and manipulating the minds of the people it comes in contact with. Out of nowhere this malware comes about and starts to pass on vigorously through cyberspace, consuming up computer programs systems around the globe. Not only are these claims virus dispersing to computers and to data bases, nonetheless it starts growing through people's minds. Toshi, Marta, By, and Mitchell are the primary characters from this story and are unified throughout with this music malware. Powers explains to how each character works with the virus and how this affects all of them internally. Toshi, thrilled off of hacking through cyberspace, finally met his match if the RIAA employed him to work for their very own company.
